Broad Street Bridge
Walking & Cycling Network
Small Scale Project (£1m - £4m)
Long Eaton is a flat and compact town, well suited for cyclists and pedestrians. The Town Board would like to improve the connectivity around areas of the town. These include the bridge at Broad Street which connects West Park to the town centre. Currently the Broad Street Bridge is narrow and the ramps are steep. More importantly it doesn’t connect with the canal towpath. The spectacular new bridge, poised to become an Erewash landmark, will solve all these issues.
See the images below for a glimpse of the bridge design. The sweeping curve of steel – featuring a stunning suspension arch – will help to transform the area’s waterfront. The iconic crossing for pedestrians, cyclists and wheelchair users will span the Erewash Canal – linking the centre of Long Eaton to the town’s much-loved West Park. Construction is due to begin in late summer 2025 and expected to complete by middle of 2026.
West Park Waterfront
West Park Visitor Attractions
Small Scale Project (£1m - £4m)
At the foot of the iconic new bridge, a new ‘Waterfront’ will be built alongside the Erewash Canal with the potential for quayside moorings to enable commercial boats to provide food and drink or water sports activities, along with decking and street furniture to allow visitors to enjoy the waterside environment, including permits for small scale (cinema, stage or other) performances.
