Long Eaton High Street
Medium Scale Project (£5m- 9m)
Investment from the Townscape Heritage Initiative fund 10 years ago enabled a redesign of the Market Place. However, the rest of the pedestrian area looks dated and the rules regarding vehicles and parking are unclear leading to potential safety risks. The market maybe an underused resource and the High Street can look a little bleak on non-market days.
This is an opportunity to redesign the High Street to reflect and build on the best of Long Eaton. The redesign and upgrade could match the high design standards of the Market Place (opposite the Corner Pin). There are many potential options which include locating the market back to the Market Place, improving the positioning of stalls in relation to shops and removing parking to improve safety. There are also alternative options for the street layout, thereby allowing for more sociable areas for sitting out and enjoying an enhanced green space.
Erewash Borough Council, in partnership with Derbyshire County Council recently commissioned AECOM to produce an Options Report for Long Eaton High Street.
