How will I be Affected by the Work?
Whether you live, work or are visiting in Long Eaton, while the programme is being delivered you are likely to see works that are part of the High Street project around the town centre.
Visitors
Shopping
All the shops in the town centre will be accessible to customers during their advertised opening times. When work is happening near a shop, we will leave a pedestrian access route open. Work immediately outside shop doors will be done while the shop is closed.
Parking
Town centre car parks will remain open and parking is now free at weekends. This includes Beaconsfield Street, Lawrence Street, Claye Street, Gibb Street, New Street, Waverley Steet, and the Town Hall car parks.
Blue badge access and parking on the High Street will be suspended from 5th May 2026 for the duration of the scheme. Additional temporary blue badge parking spaces have been provided in Beaconsfield and Claye Street car parks; this provision is based on a consultation carried out with blue badge holders on the High Street in spring 2024. Once the High Street regeneration has finished there will be 9 permanent additional blue badge parking spaces in Beaconsfield car park as part of the redesign of the back market. The High Street has been redesigned to ensure pedestrian safety; this means blue badge holders will only be able to park in two spaces at the High Street’s junction with Cross Street/Main Street.
Businesses
How will my business be affected by the works
We are working in phases to minimise the disruption to the High Street. If your business is located along the High Street or Tamworth Road, you can look at our phasing plan to see when work will start and end near your business. If you would like help understanding where your business sits within this plan, please send us your business address via this contact form and we will advise you when work is scheduled to start and end near your business.
You will be able to open as usual. While we are working close to your premises, a pedestrian access will be maintained throughout your published opening hours. Work immediately outside your doors will be done while your business is closed to the public. You will still be able to receive deliveries before 10am and after 4pm but it may not always be possible to park directly outside your premises.
The project’s public liaison officer will speak to you about maintaining access and receiving deliveries before work starts on the phase directly affecting your business.
Independent businesses that will be directly affected by work will receive a business rates discount. (TBC confirmed post Executive meeting 5 May)
If your business is not on the High Street or Tamworth Road, you will not be directly affected by the works.
