Support for Long Eaton Regeneration Projects.

Richard Ledger, Chairman of the Long Eaton Town Board backed a decision by all of its members bar one to close down the proposed £5.59 million Box Office Cultural Hub development in favour of securing the remaining regeneration projects and to resurrect the previously mothballed Britannia Road Canal Bridge as part of the Long Eaton Walking and Cycling project.

The decision was not taken lightly by the board which is made up of independent members from the Long Eaton business and voluntary community as well as representation from the local authority and other organisations. It was agreed at the meeting that the £5.59m would be reallocated to other projects to help offset rising inflation and other cost pressures.

The other projects that will benefit from a much welcomed cash injection will include the Galaxy Row development receiving an additional £0.68m; the Long Eaton High Street and Derby Road Junction projects will receive a further investment of £1.7m and £1.6m respectively to mitigate inflationary and other cost pressures.

The Britannia Road Canal Bridge, previously withdrawn due to a lack of funds will now be reinstated thanks to reallocated support of £1.61 million and will offer a much welcome addition to the Long Eaton Walking and Cycling project.

“Whilst it has been an extremely difficult decision to close the Box Office Cultural Hub project, we are pleased to see the Britannia Road Canal Bridge reinstated and the reallocated funding helping to secure other developments that have been challenged by rising inflation and other cost pressures. I look forward to sharing progress in the near future as the Board continues to work hard to make a real difference and deliver regeneration for Long Eaton.”

As the projects move forward they are subject to change, taking account of external factors that are beyond the control of the Long Eaton Town Board.

Leisure Hub plans for West Park.

Exciting plans for a Leisure Hub at West Park in Long Eaton will benefit residents and provide employment opportunities.

The project forms part of the Long Eaton Town Deal which will see up to £25 million of Government funding invested into the town, with a total of seven projects under consideration.

The plans for the park, which is on the edge of the town centre and located off Wilsthorpe Road, are in two parts. The first would see a stunning waterfront alongside the Erewash Canal, including an area for seating to enjoy the park and the canal as well as a facilities for refreshments and to launch small water-craft. The second part of the project includes an improved events space, which will allow for a wider variety of events, with increased car parking and installation of utilities, to help encourage more people to visit the park more often.

On Tuesday 6 September Council Executive will consider the report for the West Park Leisure Hub, which will then be presented to the Town Board next month for endorsement prior to submission to Government.

“These projects may still be in the early stages but when they come to fruition they will provide improved leisure and recreation facilities for residents. The leisure hub would also attract more visitors to the park and the town as a whole. This is just one part of the exciting proposals for the Long Eaton Town Deal and we look forward to making improvements to the town that can be enjoyed by everyone.”

The designs for commercial office space at former stable blocks in Long Eaton have been revealed.

The plans for the buildings are part of the old Stables Business Centre that form part of the Long Eaton Town Deal. The designs, pictured, have been created by contractor Billy Garner.

The project forms part of the Long Eaton Town Deal which will see up to £25 million of Government funding invested into the town, with several projects being developed.

Richard Ledger, chair of the Long Eaton Town Deal Board, says: "The designs for the office space at the former Stable Block are fantastic and I look forward to seeing this project come to life."

Designers chosen for West Park Bridge.
